“Adaptogens” seems to be popping up everywhere, but what exactly are they and why are they so revered?

Some benefits of adaptogens include reducing stress and fatigue

What is an adaptogen?

No, they are not some hippy drug!

They are AMAZING.

They are remarkably potent. And yes, they are legal.

Read on and enjoy an exciting journey with these powerful herbs, you won’t look back.

An Adaptogen is “a nontoxic substance and especially a plant extract that is held to increase the body’s ability to resist the damaging effects of stress and promote or restore normal physiological functioning” .

Adaptogens assist our bodies in maintaining homeostasis or balance them in times of stress whether it be physical, emotional, biological or chemical.

Each one of these adaptogens (the little treasures they are) claim to do something a little distinctive as well as some having synergistic cross overs.

Dr. Brenda Powell, co-medical director of the Centre for Integrative and Lifestyle Medicine at Cleveland Clinic’s Wellness Institute tells TIME magazine , “They’re meant to bring us back to the middle”.

Although there is definitely more research needed to prove the potency of each of these herbs, much research is under-way and the results are exciting.

What are the benefits of adaptogens?

Many of these herbs have been used for years in traditional societies, (for example in Ayurvedic medicine in India) and have proven to do wonders.

Depending on what you are experiencing with yourself, you may be drawn to one adaptogen in particular or a few or even a mixture of them. They all have differing effects on your body.

Whatever is true for you, remember, if you like it and how your body responds to it, rotate it. The effects of something that initially packs a punch, will dissipate if used every day for long periods.

Try rotating the herbs, so when you do need a ‘power-house team member’ to help you; the life force is active.
